As part of Sydney Catholic Schools, we employ highly qualified and competent teachers who are accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). To continuously improve our practice, teachers also work towards the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, from proficient teacher to lead teacher level.
The delivery of quality curriculum, pedagogy (teaching methods) and assessment is ensured by our system of schools through the provision of contemporary NESA accredited professional learning in a range of modes. Our Centres of Excellence offer online learning and external face-to-face courses, and timely, collaborative and relevant in-situ learning take place within the context of each classroom. Sydney Catholic Schools’ teachers are strongly committed to their ongoing learning, with many having completed, or are currently undertaking, postgraduate studies in areas related to curriculum, student wellbeing, special education, theology, pastoral care and leadership.
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School Earlwood places a high priority on staff professional development, ensuring that all staff are equipped and supported in facing the evolving challenges and changes on the educational platform.
Some of our processes for staff development include:
Mentoring and coaching program
All teachers are mentored by a member of the Leadership Team. Following whole school professional learning, teachers implement new strategies into classroom practice. Mentors are in place to teach and observe classroom practice and then provide feedback. Teachers are also provided time to share their own reflections.
Whole school professional learning
Professional learning aligns with the school’s Annual Improvement Plan which sets specific goals for each year. Professional learning also addresses key initiatives from Sydney Catholic Schools Office.
Analysis of student data
Opportunities are provided each term for staff to collaboratively analyse and discuss individual student data in order to identify areas of growth and areas for further development ensuring students are supported in achieving success.
Personalised learning
The school provides annual membership for all staff to Teacher Learning Network which allows teachers to personalise their own professional learning in order to support the learning needs of the students in their classrooms.
